So You’ve Met A Trans Person: How We Got Where We Are Today
On Monday 21 June 2021 Suffolk Pride staged a virtual talk to mark Suffolk Day 2021 during Pride Month. The talk welcomed Joni Doe (she/they) as she talked about the history of trans* folks in the UK and why we are where we are today. From landmark court cases to why trans healthcare is the way it is.

Suffolk Pride 2021 Announcement!
Mark your calendars! Suffolk Pride returns
This year we’re offering a series of smaller events to ensure the safety and comfort of our community,
as well as enable as many people as possible to take part in as wide a range as possible of Pride activities across Suffolk!
Following the clear decision to move Suffolk Pride online last year, which resulted in a wildly successful Virtual Pride reaching thousands of people across Suffolk and beyond, today (4 May) we have announced a dynamic programme of smaller events this summer designed to be enjoyed either in-person or at home via livestream – to ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees and increase accessibility.
These events will replace the annual parade & protest march like the one we held on Ipswich Waterfront in 2019. A parade will not form part of this year’s celebrations due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This decision mirrors that of our neighbours Norwich Pride.
Instead, Suffolk Pride will focus on a jam-packed weekend of smaller events taking place over the summer/autumn which promises to have something for everyone – from relaxed family activities, to a waterfront gig at Cult Cafe, to the main event – a drag show party extravaganza on Friday night, all featuring a line-up of amazing local LGBTQ+ artists & performers.
The team have also organised accompanying activities & events, including an art exhibition, panel talks, and a series of workshops delivered by Creative Curve.
All activities will be free to attend, with the exception of Friday’s main event.
Suffolk Pride welcomes everyone and is the county’s largest annual celebration for the LGBTQ+ community. Our aim is to use these events as a way to platform underrepresented groups, give a voice to the LGBTQ+ community and bring all our supporters together.
Suffolk Pride’s Chair, Adria Pittock adds: “We are really looking forward to a putting on a series of Suffolk Pride events that will provide something for everyone who gets involved, both in person and on our live-stream. This is our way of raising the profile of the LGBTQ+ community in Suffolk and showing off some of our amazing talent! If you would like to get involved in helping with the organisation of Suffolk Pride or have some fabulous skills, performance or creativeness to offer, please get in touch!”
